Now, for the first time, PLL executive producer and Ravenswood co-creator Marlene King is exclusively revealing why Hanna’s hottie was tapped to front the new series.

“In terms of the mythology of Ravenswood, there is a reason his character was chosen,” King tells ETonline. “Caleb has an ambiguous past. He doesn’t know as much about where he comes from compared to the other [characters] and we’re going to use that as we unfold the Ravenswood story.”
Once fans got over the initial shock, thoughts — and Twitter trending topics — immediately turned to the following question: “OMG!!! What does this mean for Haleb?!?!?!?!” Turns out, Ashley Benson had the exact same thought after finding out her scene partner was packing up his laptop and amazing conditioner.

“I was so sad,” Benson recalled of hearing the big news. “This is the thing, I’m so happy for Tyler, he deserves it so much, but he’s like my other half! He’s just amazing. When the day comes to shoot his last scene, I’m not going to be able to do it. I mean, I don’t want to give him away to these other people. But, I talked to Marlene about [how Caleb will be written off PLL] and I’m excited for people to see that because I’m pretty happy with how she told me their story would end.”

So what did Marlene tell Ashley? You know I got that answer. “Hanna and Caleb are such a great couple and we’ve designed this beautiful Casablanca moment for them,” King teased. “Hanna really gives Caleb permission to leave Rosewood and, basically, go to this other show [laughs]. I hope our fans embrace it as much as we’ve embraced it as writers. That’s important to us.”

The 30-second teaser, which officially debuts on ABC Family the week of May 13, picks up moments following the aftermath of the fire that threatened the four Liars’ lives. “She set us up,” Aria (Lucy Hale) says to her friends. Who is “she”? Likely the troublesome and omnipresent “A” or Red Coat, who is proving to be just as problematic for the girls.

“I need to find out who Red Coat is,” Mona (Janel Parrish) tells the foursome. “She tried to kill all of us.” Is Mona newly reformed? Is she back on the Liars’ side now?Later Aria, Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) recite yet another text from “A,” but this time Mona’s in on it as well. The offending message? “The truth won’t set you free. I’m going to be bury you with it. — A.” Before Emily gets a worrisome text (or photo?): “Oh my god …”

Flashes of a teary Aria in camouflage, the girls in various states of distress (are you surprised?), Toby (Keegan Allen) hiding in the bushes, a tarped body, a crazed driver and Emily pushing someone to safety. What was in the trunk of Detective Wilden’s police car? Is that why the Liars are all dressed in black?

Tyler has been announced as the first guest for the “Keep A Secret” convention, presented by Wish Events. The convention will take place on the 7th and 8th of December 2013 in Paris. Ravenswood centers on a town not far from Rosewood, Penn., which has suffered under a deadly curse for generations. Five strangers find themselves connected by this fatal curse and need to dig into the town’s mysterious and terrible history before it’s too late for all of them.

Blackburn will be seen traveling to the new town in the Halloween hour, during which Ravenswood is first introduced.

The actor — who has been a Pretty Little Liars regular since 2011 — will still be an integral part of the mothership’s upcoming summer season before officially switching gears in October. How Blackburn’s character enters into the Ravenswood equation and the future of the Caleb-Hanna relationship remain to be seen.

“I’m from L.A., but New York is obviously one of the best cities in the world,” Blackburn explains. “When I do get to go over there, I definitely spend all of my time in Brooklyn, specifically in the Williamsburg area. I really love it over there. I like to escape the city a bit and feel a little bit more calm.”

“The Flea Market is awesome. For me, it has a little bit of everything. I’m a pretty low-key sort of guy, so I like to keep it pretty simple and calm. The Brooklyn Flea is a go-to place to just walk around. It’s a great place to people watch.”

Best Pizza: Roberta’s (261 Moore Street)
“We don’t have pizza like that in L.A., that’s for sure!”

Best New York-Style Shopping Destination: Oak (55 Nassau Street)
“It’s pretty hipster-y–I don’t really love that word, but it’s more my style than anything. It’s definitely a little bit different than something you would find in L.A. I feel like, as far as fashion goes, New York has a pretty specific sort of vibe. It’s hard to explain, I guess maybe it’s a the cuts of things, the length of things…they have the small characteristics of a New York-based place that caters to a very New York vibe.”

Best Place For A Night Out: The Jane Hotel (113 Jane Street)
“I guess you can say it’s kind of a club atmosphere, but it’s a little bit more lounge-y. It’s my favorite place to go out. It’s an older hotel. I love that place, it’s kind of like The Haunted Mansion.”

Best Place To Party: The Box (189 Chrystie Street)
“For the most debauchery I’ve ever had in New York, it’s The Box. That place was insane. [Laughs] I mean, I saw things one should never see.”
